David’s Big Climb!

David Hourston has committed to an adventurous fundraising challenge for Children 1st! Please read his story below:

A few months ago, an email arrived in my inbox from, Children 1st, looking for people who would like to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for them. ‘Who on earth would want to do that?’, I thought to myself. However, the idea kind of stuck in my head and started to grow on me. So I met with one of the fundraising team from Children 1st and after finding out a bit more, I decided to sign up!

If you don’t know Children 1st, they used to be known as the Royal Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and they provide vital services to the country’s most disadvantaged, mistreated and vulnerable children. Some of the stories on the Children 1st website are heart breaking https://www.children1st.org.uk/ and they are as worthy a cause as I can think of.

I am paying my own travel and accommodation and so everything that I raise will go straight to Children 1st. I will leave Edinburgh on 20th September next year and fly out to Tanzania where it will take me 6 days climbing to get to the peak of the highest mountain in Africa. For me, this will be a huge challenge that will require a huge amount of preparation and training, which is well underway.

I attach a link to my just giving page and I would be extremely grateful to anyone that would like to sponsor me. Anything that you can give would be welcome.
