In 1886 the Merchant Company were persuaded by Former Pupils to rent Honeyman’s Field at Ravelston by the north west junction of Queensferry Terrace and Ravelston Dykes as the school and club’s first dedicated playing field from the governors of the Trinity Hospital for £8 a year together with three adjoining cottages before the middle part of the existing Inverleith Playing Fields was bought in 1894. Later in 1926 the Merchant Company acquired Scottish Rugby’s “Union Field” with its stand, bankings and press box following the latter’s move to Murrayfield.

Much more on this subject will appear in the club’s coming FP News.
